Italian

Ciao! – Hello!

Italian is a Romance language spoken mainly in Europe: Italy, Switzerland, San Marino, Vatican City, by minorities in Malta, Monaco, Croatia, Slovenia, France, Libya, Eritrea and Somalia. Descended from Latin, Italian may be said to represent living shadow of the ancient Roman empire. The source of modern Italian was a spoken, popular version of the Latin tongue that was spread throughout the Empire by conquering Roman legions. Italian is widely taught in many schools around the world, but rarely as the first foreign language. In fact, Italian is considered the fourth or fifth  most taught foreign language in the world.

Italian as an official language is in Italy, San Marino, Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Switzerland, Vatican City.
